Federation Taps MM Empower and MGSI for Marine Civil Engineering
MM Empower Corp. (MM Empower), the jointly established global human resources consulting company between Magsaysay in the Philippines and MOL of Japan, alongside Magsaysay Global Services, Inc. (MGSI) hosted a delegation to Manila from the Federation of Japan Ports and Airports Construction Association (Nikkoren). Among the key highlights of the special visit was the courtesy call to Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) last Thursday, May 19, as Japan eyes the Philippines for potential work opportunities for specified skilled workers (SSW) in the far eastern nation.
Founded in 1984 and with more than 1,030 member companies from the construction industry in Japan, Nikkoren is designated by the Japanese government to conduct Specified Skilled Worker (SSW) examination and preparatory training for the exams on Marine Civil Engineering Skilled Worker roles. After Vietnam, the Philippines is only the second country to be identified for the SSW exam and training. The initiative is expected to generate job opportunities for skilled Filipino workers envisioning to work in Japan.
The MOL Group and its customers have faced serious personnel shortages in Japan’s domestic industries, and mid- and long-term solutions have been difficult to achieve. The Japanese government has implemented steps to develop an environment that is welcoming to overseas personnel. These include opening more occupational and residence status visas to increase the number of overseas workers.
MOL and Magsaysay contribute to the sustainable growth of both Japan and the Philippines. They connect workers and companies through its network with MPRC in the Philippines, one of the world’s main talent solution providers for overseas workers; and maximize the experience and expertise accumulated in building a sustainable talent pool of seafarers (Magsaysay Maritime Corporation) and land-based workers (Magsaysay Global Services) over many decades. Leveraging on this, both organizations aim to continue to help Japanese companies and the government find sustainable solutions for the benefit of Japan, the Philippines, and overseas workers.
