In a significant step towards workforce diversification, Sanwa Dock, a renowned Japanese shipbuilding company, welcomed its first group of Filipino technical interns last September 1, 2024. The technical interns were deployed by Magsaysay Global Services, Inc. (MGSI) in partnership with MM Empower Corporation (MME)*.
Sanwa Dock, specializing in ship repair and modification, has been actively accepting foreign interns from Vietnam for almost 20 years. The addition of Filipino trainees aligns with their ongoing efforts to foster a more diverse and inclusive workplace.
The Filipino workers bring skills and expertise to Sanwa Dock, particularly in the engine department finishing work. Prior to their deployment, they underwent intensive Japanese language and culture training at the Magsaysay Professional Training and Languages (MAGPRO) of the Magsaysay Center for Hospitality and Culinary Arts (MIHCA), ensuring their seamless integration into the company.
This successful partnership lays the groundwork for future collaborations between all stakeholders, contributing to the sustainability of the entire maritime industry.
